The Coca-Cola Company Contributes $2 Million to Catalyst’s ‘Changing Workplaces, Changing Lives’ Campaign

The Coca-Cola Company The Coca-Cola Company announced a $2 million, multiyear award to Catalyst Inc. to help women worldwide grow and thrive in business. The donation was announced in conjunction with Catalyst’s 50th anniversary celebration held this week in New York City.

Catalyst, a nonprofit organization working to accelerate the advancement of women globally, will use the funding to create the Center for Corporate Practice Research, which will analyze more than 20 years of initiatives on inclusion used by large corporations. It will share its findings and best practices with global markets working to achieve gender parity.

Experts Again Name Unilever As Top Corporate Sustainability Leader

Unilever Unilever rode the top spot among corporate sustainability leaders for a second consecutive year, according to the latest survey of industry experts and professionals by research firm GlobeScan Incorporated and SustainAbility Ltd., a think tank and strategy consultancy.

The findings are drawn from The 2012 Sustainability Leaders: A GlobeScan / SustainAbility Survey of sustainability experts across corporate, government, NGO, academic, research, and service organizations in 76 countries. A total of 825 experts were surveyed online by GlobeScan and SustainAbility in January and February 2012.

AccountAbility Names New Head of Global Research and Development

Accountability Ted Grant, a respected leader in the business and not-for-profit sectors joins AccountAbility as Director of Global Research and Development, AccountAbility CEO Sunny Misser announced today.

In his new role, Grant will be responsible for growing the portfolio of research products and services, while working closely with Advisory Services and Standards to provide tailored research and intelligence that further enhance those offerings.

UN Global Compact announces: Sustainia100 and the Sustainia Award

SUSTAINIA Sustainia project is gathering 100 solutions for a sustainable tomorrow.

Titled Sustainia100, the solutions will be delivered to decision-makers during Rio+20 to inspire discussions. In addition, solutions selected for the Sustainia100 will be registered as nominees for the Sustainia Award. Submissions of projects are open
until 20 April via http://www.sustainia.me/

The objective of the Sustainia100 and the Sustainia Award is to present existing solutions that help build a desirable and realistic sustainable society. Sustainia invites corporations, organizations and engaged individuals to present their sustainable ideas and solutions. A wide range of projects are welcomed, ranging from local community initiatives to large scale technology solutions.

Cleaning up the Global Compact: dealing with corporate free riders

gc More than 750 businesses, including major European and American corporations, are expected to be ejected from the United Nations Global Compact in the next six months, and a few hundred more after that, as the group evaluates whether its members are upholding its principles.

Non-governmental organisations have long criticised the Global Compact, which promotes 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, because it has no effective monitoring and enforcement provisions.

They also accuse businesses of using it to oppose any binding international regulation on corporate accountability and for benefitting from the Global Compact’s logo, a blue globe and a laurel wreath, which is very similar to the UN logo, while continuing to perpetrate human rights and environmental abuses.
